SHOW GIRL

展覧会「SHOW GIRL」のメイン作品。
踊りで魅せる女のまわりで「ええじゃないか」と踊っているのは市井の人々。

「ええじゃないか」は、江戸時代末期の慶応3年（1867年）に近畿、四国、東海地方などで発生した騒動である。
「天から御札（伊勢神宮の札）が降ってきた、これは慶事の前触れだ」という話が広まり、幕末の動乱期に仮装するなどした人々が「ええじゃないか」などと囃しながら集団で町を練り歩きながら熱狂的に踊った。
世直しを求める民衆のエネルギーが反映されたものとされ、「ええじゃないか」の発祥地は諸説あり、愛知県豊橋市、近隣の地域が有力とされている。

A woman who charms with her dance. And people dancing to the music, saying
‘Eeja−nai−ka!’
‘Eeja−nai−ka!’ means ‘That’s fine!’

Those riots has occurred just before Japan opened its doors to the outside world(1867).
‘Lots of amulets fell from the sky! It’s a sign of good things to come!’ As word of this got around.
Those broke out in the Kinki, Shikoku and Tokai regions(West JAPAN).

people paraded through the town as a group, dancing wildly ,saying
people saying ‘Eeja−nai−ka!’
This reflects the energy of the people calling for social reform.
